The development of Bukit Panjang town started in 1981, with the first batch of HDB flats completing in 1985, and for the next 10 years HDB blocks from the 100s to the 500s were built on the vast land encased by KJE to the North, BKE to the East, Woodlands Road to the West, and Petir Road to the South. With the introduction of Hillion Mall, the main shopping hub of Bukit Panjang is strongly established in this area, with Hillion Mall providing another supermarket, a wide range of children enrichment centers, Best Denki Electronics Store and numerous food & beverage options.
The Rail Mall along Upper Bukit Timah is also easily accessible from the Dairy Farm Residences location. The shorter blue trail is 0.7 kilometres long and ends at the Hindhede Quarry. The red trail is 1.2 kilometres long, and it considered an easy route together with the blue trail. The green trail is 1.9 kilometres long, and considered moderately challenging. The yellow trail is the most challenging at 1.8 kilometres long.
Parks To the East And Upper Peirce Reservoir
To the East of Dairy Farm Residences is Zhenghua Park, with strolling and running trails which lead to the Bukit Panjang Park to the North, and the Chestnut Nature Park further East. Hikers looking for a challenge can follow the foot trails at Chestnut park all the way North to Mandai. Special mountain biking trails are also available in Chestnut park. The Chestnut Pump Track is a skills training circuit of banked turns and features designed to give mountain bikers the experience of going up and down, thus the term “pumping”.
